This event takes place every year on the 10, 11, 12 and 13th of August and is organised by the
Pro Loco Cerceto.
During these four magical evenings in August Cannole is host to a popular festival set against a background of folk music and offering stalls rich with gastronomic delights highlighting the traditional flavours of the Salento cuisine. Of course, the main dish is the "Municeddha" (snail, escargot) prepared in three traditional ways.
"La carne di chiocciola è cibo per il popolo perchè, solo il popolo sa creare attorno ad esso una festa tutta sua.
(Marcel Roland, 1939)
Inspired by the efforts of the many citizens who work to make the festival a success, the town is committed to making the festival ever more efficient so that it can welcome even more than seventy thousand people each year.
La Festa della Municeddha is known as the most important snail festivals in the south and Cannole is one of the twelve Italian municipalities designated with the title "Città delle Lumache".
