RENATE SUBEI

Nata nella Germania settentrionale, a Tostedt, un piccolo villaggio nei pressi di Amburgo, è cresciuta in una fattoria dove si coltivavano verdure e si allevavano animali, con i quali le piaceva giocare da piccola. Trascorreva anche molto tempo a divertirsi con l’acqua dei fiumiciattoli che attraversavano i borghi vicini, dove costruiva piccole dighe e ponti utilizzando rami e sassi. Questo le ha permesso di sviluppare un forte interesse per la natura, che la portava a collezionare pezzi di legno, pietre, fiori e foglie. Disegnava e dipingeva, sognando di poter sviluppare questa sua passione, ma prima, per molti anni, è stata impegnata in vari lavori e come segretaria presso una agenzia di assicurazioni. Fino a quando una decisione radicale le farà interrompere questo tipo di impegni, permettendole di interessarsi inizialmente di grafic design in Amburgo e poi focalizzando il suo interesse verso la calligrafia. Diviene membro del gruppo "Cormoran", un associazione di artisti di calligrafia, partecipando a diverse manifestazioni artistiche. Oggi lavora per il "Museo d’Arte e dell’Artigianato" in Amburgo,dove tiene anche corsi di calligrafia, disegno e pittura. Rinnovando il proprio interesse per la natura, è ritornata a ricercare e collezionare materiali naturali che lavora ora unitamente a pietre, carta, lana ed altri materiali. Ha partecipato al simposio di scultura alla Internazionale Sommerakademie di Salisburgo nel 2001 e 2002.

Born and raised in Tostedt, a little town near Hamburg in North Germany, she grew up on a small farm with animals and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed playing with the animals and found her way to fields, streams, and forests. She built little dams in the flowing water with stones sticks and mud, and collected flowers, leaves, grasses and mushrooms which she sometimes made into small art objects. It was during these little outings as a child, that she developed her love of nature. She was always drawing and painting with the wish of further developing this endeavour, so close to her heart, but she initially made her way through different professional experiences, working for an insurance company as well as in other offices. Finally she made a radical decision to give up her professioal life to study graphic design in Hamburg, with a specialisation in calligraphy. Subei became a member of the group "Cormoran", a group of calligraphers and took part in several exibitions. Today she works in the Museum for Arts and Crafts in Hamburg, giving courses in calligraphy, drawing and painting. Redeveloping her love of nature she found her way back to natural materials, working with stone, paper, wool and other earthy elements. She participated in the Sculpture Symposion at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg, Austria in 2001 and 2002. He lives and works in his studio in Andalusia and in the places where he is realising projects.
