| SYMPOSIUM THEME : MEDITERRANEO
The theme of SEGNI E RI SEGNI, International Sculpture Symposium "in Pietra Leccese" which will be held in S. Maria di Leuca, is MEDITERRANEO.
Old maps; ancient civilisations, peoples and races; traders, pirates and adventurers; Finibus Terrae; religions; languages and the tales of old fishermen - all these are part of the Mediterranean. Vast treasure-chest and liquid mirror of the planets; a collective wealth inherited to pass on to future generations. |

The European community revolves around this geophysical entity; no longer a barrier or a border, the cooperative construction of a huge vessel is underway.
These fortunate conditions, which today permit reciprocal exchanges, visits, cultural enrichment and more, are creating for the first time, and with revolutionary force, a new situation which fosters a natural development of new exchanges.

Fondaci, caravanserragli e ghetti non hanno più oggi gli stesi significati, da Gibilterra ad Instanbul, grandi capitali, chiese Armene, minareti e cattedrali,
Closed communities, caravanserai and ghettos no longer have the same significance; from Gibralter to Istanbul, great capitals, churches, cathedrals and minarets, with their carpets and labyrinthine marble floors, will be be open to understanding and reciprocal exchanges.

The Balaeric Islands, Cyprus, Crete, Sardinia and Corsica, diamonds in the same brooch, are favoured tourist destinations for the new European citizens.
Mycenae with its Lion Gate; pyramids; towers; city walls; the Colosseum; the great Gothic cathedrals; dolmen and menhir, are "signs" (SEGNI) of profound traditions and deeply-rooted cultures. It is the artists' task to explore these eloquent expressions and make them their own.
Il tempo per scrivere un nuovo capitolo è arrivato, ri-segnare nuove tracce è nostro compito, un SIMPOSIO INTERNAZIONALE DI SCULTURA , ne offre l’occasione.
The time has come to write a new chapter, our task is to create "new signs" or "re-create" signs, and the International Sculpture Symposium offers this opportunity.
